I hope you had a restful Winter Break and are ready to START and FINISH second semester strong! Whether it was the best year ever or you barely made it through, 2016 is in the past. Make sure, from day one, that you are making choices that are consistent with your college and career goals. Here are three areas that will make all the difference for you in 2017.

PUNCTUALITY: Nobody will ever give you a hard time for being early to a date, to class, or to your job. Nobody. You might end up in a very rare career path where punctuality is not important, but 99.9% of the time you will need to arrive on time, ready to handle business, every day. Tigers get to class on time, because it’s important for success in current classes and—more importantly—in just about every career.

FINISHING TASKS: Tigers get their work done and turn it in. You don’t get something for nothing at Chaffey High School, because you don’t get something for nothing in the real world. You have caring adults that will support you every step of the way, but YOU need to handle business and take charge of your learning. With all the help available to you in class, after school, and during ROAR on Saturdays, you have MANY opportunities to complete and turn in the tasks that are ESSENTIAL for your academic success.

KINDNESS: This one might seem like it doesn’t fit, but the ability to support and work well with diverse teammates is becoming more and more of a necessity in just about every job setting. Tigers are kind. Tigers highlight the best in each other. Tigers celebrate differences. Tigers have each other’s backs.

What do you want to accomplish in 2017? What habits will you develop to support you in achieving your goals? Who will you partner with for support? How will you help fellow Tigers accomplish their goals?

I can’t wait to see what YOU, the students of Chaffey High School, will accomplish this year—both individually and collectively!

Don’t stop believing,

Dr. Matamala
