Tiger Students and Parents,

It is great to have you back for second semester! I hope you had a restful winter break in the company of family and friends. 2016 is set up to be the best year in the 100+ year history of this great school. You, the students, are the ones that need to make it happen. Seniors, especially, need to stay focused on the goal—graduation is Thursday, May 19, at 6:30pm on Graber Field. Many of you have been working hard to stay on the A-G track—continue; you are almost there!

Juniors, you have a very important chance to show what you know this April when you take the CAASP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress). The CAASP results give us important information to continually improve our programs at CHS. The CAASPP also contains the EAP English and math (Early Assessment Program) assessments that measure college readiness. For more information on the CAASP including sample questions, please visit: http://www.caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html

Sophomores, you will be taking the Life Science test in March. Freshmen, you will take the President’s Physical Fitness test. It has been great to see the classes of 2018 and 2019 continue to mature and get increasingly focused on their college and career goals! Before you know it, you will be seniors.

Tigers, second semester will be great, because you will make it great. Keep up your excellent attendance, stay up to date on your classwork and homework, use your agendas to write down your assignments, study, prepare, and ask for help. We are here for you, and we believe in you. Make it happen!

Proud to be a Tiger,

George Matamala, Ed.D.

Dear High School Counselors, Teachers, and Educators:

This year's application for Experience Berkeley is available here:

It provides Black, Latino & Native American rising juniors (class of 2017) with a 3.5 or higher GPA with mentors, tools, and resources to complete a competitive UC college application and the opportunity to get a close, personal look at UC Berkeley.

Students are introduced to college life, given admissions feedback on personal statements, financial aid information, and mentoring throughout the application process during the summer and school year.

We double the normal admissions rate for students who complete our program.

Many current UC Berkeley students said this was a defining experience in their college application and ultimate selection process.

Applications are due March 30. Students will be notified by May 31.

Please disseminate to students who are qualified. Thanks so much.

The Experience Berkeley program is committed to promoting the University of California’s goal of having a student body that is representative of the State of California via college application assistance.
