About Me

Welcome students!  I am looking forward to being your teacher this year.  I will be getting to know you as we move through the year; however, this site is a small way for you to learn a little about me.

I have always been a California girl.  In fact, Ontario is my home town and Chaffey High School is my alma mater.  I graduated from Chaffey High School in 1988.  That's a long time ago!

I loved attending Chaffey and was involved in lots of activities.  I took Modern Dance for four years and joined as many clubs as I could, including: MEChA, Intercultural Club, Astronomy Club, Kiwanis Club, and the California Scholarship Federation.  Outside of school, I was involved in my church, St. George, serving as a youth leader, Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, and Church Council member.  On top of that, I worked!  I held three part-jobs: McDonalds, Daily Report (now it's the Daily Bulletin), and after school tutor.

After graduating from high school, I attended California State University, Fullerton.  I earned three scholarships to help pay the way. I also worked various jobs while in college and took some student loans. I got my bachelor's degree in Psychology and Chicano Studies (double major) in four years and graduated with honors.  Since then, I have also gotten several credentials, my master's degree, and I am currently working on a doctorate degree. I believe strongly in life-long learning.

My student teaching experience was at Etiwanda High School.  There I got to teach U.S. History and Psychology.  After that year, I was hired to teach at Valley View High School.  I taught World History, U.S. History, Government, Economics, English, Reading, and CAHSEE Prep.  I stayed at Valley View for thirteen years.  In 2008, I transferred to the school where I always wanted to teach, Chaffey High School.  For a period of four years, I stepped out of the classroom to serve as a Support Provider to teachers in the induction program.

Besides teaching classes for English Learners at Chaffey High School, I am also the English Language Coordinator and I am on several teacher committees.  It's part of my nature to be involved, to help others, and to find solutions.  I am committed to helping all of my students have a good learning experience.  I want each student to thrive and develop in their English proficiency, achieve reclassification, meet the A-G requirements, and graduate on-time both college and career ready.

I am married to the love of my life, Mr. Segovia.  He works here at Chaffey as a history teacher.  We have three teenage children, who are unique and awesome in so many ways.  We also have two very fun dogs.  Some things I like to do include: spending time with my family, watching my children at their events, traveling, reading, running, and trying new recipes.
