BEAUTY IN CHEMICAL REACTIONS

CAREER AWARENESS PROJECT

DUE MARCH

*** USE YOUR SCRIPT AND I AM CONFIDENT THAT YOU WILL DO GREAT!

THE TASK: Find, and interview an individual in the field you may want to study in the future.

***(PLEASE, let me know if you are having trouble finding someone)

I challenge you to push yourself to and ask for a job shadow opportunity, internship or a summer job.

THE PRODUCT: Remember, you may choose to report your finding in Video, Article or Audio form. PLEASE make sure you ask for a head shot picture.

Identifying Types of Chemical Rxns

IDENTIFYING TYPES OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS OR EQUATIONS

  1. Synthesis—two reactants join to form one product **clue: one product
    1. A + B à AB
    2. 2 Na + Cl2 à 2 NaCl
  2. Decomposition—one reactant breaks into several products **clue: one reactant
    1. CD à C + D
    2. 2 H2O à 2 H2 + O2
  3. Single Replacement—an element in a compound switches places with a lone element                                                                                    **clue: lonely element on each side
    1. A + BC à AC + B
    2. 2 KBr + Cl2 à 2 KCl + Br2
  4. Double Replacement—two compounds swap their positive and negative parts                                                                                              **clue: two compounds on each side
    1. AB + CD à AD + CB
    2. AgNO3 + NaCl à AgCl + NaNO3
  5. Combustion—an energy-releasing reaction with oxygen to produce one or more oxides                                                                                                               **Clue: O2 is a reactant, products are compounds with oxygen in them
    1. AB + O2 à AO + BO
    2. C + O2 à CO2
